A new bill has been introduced in the National Assembly to amend the existing law to increase the approved and paid up capital of Bangladesh Tourism Corporation.
State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Md. Mahbub Ali. Speaker Dr. Opposition Jatiya Party MP Md. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury opposed the introduction of the bill in the session. Fakhrul Imam. He said that although there is a minimum time limit in the existing law, it is not in the draft law. He also raised objections on several other issues. However, his proposal was rejected by voice vote. The bill was then sent to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism for further scrutiny. The bill increases the authorized capital of the tourism corporation from Tk 15 crore.And the paid up capital is going from Tk 5 crore to Tk 400 crore. Apart from this, provision has been made that the tourism corporation will be able to operate and manage duty free shops. The definition of tourist has been changed in the draft law. Existing law stipulates that a person may be away from home for more than 24 hours for leisure or leisure, but less than six months. It has been proposed to fix this time as one year. However, if he is for a job, he will not be considered as a tourist.The existing law stipulates that the corporation board shall have a maximum of four members. The new draft law has increased this number to 11. The chairman of the board will be the secretary of the ministry. Introducing the bill, State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali said the law is being amended to reduce unemployment, create employment, increase income and expand the scope of tourism corporations through development of tourism industry in Bangladesh.
